The Consular Section of the British High Commission in Colombo provides many services for British Citizens including issuing birth and death certificates and offering assistance when things go wrong.

They offer comprehensive travel advice for those considering a visit to Sri Lanka and run a registration programme for those who will be in Sri Lanka for more than one month. If a British Citizen becomes ill, dies, gets arrested or is a victim of a serious crime they are there to offer advice and assistance.

They can provide support to people outside the UK who are:
• British nationals (whether or not they normally live in the UK);
• in certain limited circumstances, British nationals with another nationality (dual nationals); and
• European Union nationals whose country does not have a local diplomatic or consular office, in circumstances where we have agreed to help their nationals.
